Freed by his master, running for his life toward a new beginning, Androcles takes refuge from a wolf pack in a cave, not realizing it is already occupied…by a wounded lion. While self-preservation tells him to flee, the majestic animal’s pain makes him hesitate, and when the beast transforms into an equally magnificent man, Androcles knows he has to render aid.

Thus begins a new adventure for the man seeking only autonomy and a place of his own in the world. In Okyin Androcles sees everything he is running from—a man-beast who could, with passion and his commanding presence, easily enslave another. A masterful lover able to seduce Androcles into wanting whatever he can get, even into wanting what he cannot have—or should not even desire. A superior being who causes the lines between freedom and slavery to blur, and causes a true crisis to an already damaged spirit.

Unable to believe in the peace and sanctuary Okyin offers, Androcles knows he has no choice but to once more flee. For personal liberty is more important than physical need, and the desire to be accepted as an equal overrides all passion. Even if when running away he leaves his heart behind.

The shape-shifter part of this story was almost unnecessary. It did easily convey the physical power that Okyin has... and made no question of why Androcles felt his struggle with control. But... it was truly secondary to the actual story.

Androcles story was a really interesting look at his struggle with being controlled. Initially he's forced into slavery. He has no choice. His control is taken from him... the things he's made to do are out of his control. When his master frees him it's the first time in his life he has choice. Androcles comes across Okyin and after helping heal him (in his lion form) he finds himself drawn to him. He fights the feeling of being forced into things by Okyin... but actually wanting him. Androcles had no experience outside of his life as a slave... no understanding of any other type of relationship. It was interesting to read his struggle.

I guess what I'm struggling to explain... is that it was interesting to read as Androcles come to terms with the difference between being forced into submission as a slave... and choosing to be submissive with someone in a relationship. For someone that was forced into slavery it was an internal battle to understand actually wanting to be submissive. Having a desire to give yourself over to a person by choice. That part of this story was very well done.

Lion Need edition by Anya Richards Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Fans of M/M erotica definitely need to make time to read Lion's Need by Anya Richards. I'm a fan of this author and when I saw she had a new book out, I one-clicked immediately....and I am so happy I did. Lion's Need was such a great book that had a unique and intriguing story line. I was completely fascinated with Anya's characters. Androcles has been a slave practically is whole life and Okyin is this lion shifter who he stumbles upon, while leaving his former master. The sex scenes between Androcles and Okyin are very steamy and sensual. The connection these two characters form with each other, is definitely special and think everyone should give this book a read.
I am an independent reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock. I will start by saying this is not a normal read for me. I found it touching.

It starts with a slave named Androcles being freed by his dying Master. Cato tells him how to get to safety. While fleeing like the hounds of hell are on his heals he runs into a pack of wolves. He hides in a cave and is saved by a lion shifter named Okyin.

Not only is this their story it is also a story of how after being a slave for so long his scars aren't just on his body but his mind and spirit as well. It is the story of how Androcles grows and attempts to overcome his fears.

If you are a fan of M/M erotica you will love this one.
I’m not a normal fan of erotica, however, I did actually enjoy this book. I’ve also never before read a book by Anya Richards. I’ve found her style of writing very easy to just get lost in the flow of the words. If you’re a fan of erotica or M/M romances than I definitely feel that you will enjoy this story and should read more by Ms. Richards. In the beginning of the story Androcles is a slave to an injured and dying Cato. Before his death Cato releases Androcles from slavery. Slavery is the only life that Androcles knows which gives a very interesting perspective that he is now operating from. Okyin is a lion shifter from the Gyatan Tribe. He is on his way back home after exploring the world. Sparks fly from when they meet and form a connection.

For Cato to stay in Utica awaiting Caeser's arrival, is for him to court death. Cato's final act was severing the bond of master and slave. A pack of wolves was chasing Androcles through the woods. Death doesn't come for him that night. He is in a cave when he looks over there is a lion. He is trying to decide to help the lion or to leave. He sees the lion shift to human, he sees where the lion is injured and he decides to stay and help Okyin. Okyin and Androcles went to the roof of the cave and Okyin shows Androcles the lioness's eye.
Androcles thinks that he is nothing, he is the head servant and he was freed. He is a very stubborn man.Cato injured at the Battle of Dyrrachium, Androcles's Master. Okyin is a shifter lion to man part of the Gyatan Tribe, doesn't feed while a lion.
This is an amazing story I couldn't put this book down. This is my first story by Anya Richards and it most definitely will not be my last. This is a M/M story. The author's style of writing is amazing. I highly recommend this book.
What a great, steamy, wonderful read this was. I love all things related to Ancient Greece, and the fable of Androcles and the Lion is one of my all-time favorites. To turn it into such a lovely, sexy story made my day.
At first, I thought I might have a hard time getting into it. The first chapter was a little dry. But the pace quickly picked up, and I really enjoyed the rest. The beginning is necessary to establish some emotional context for later themes.

What I really loved is how Androcles finally realizes his own need for healing. It's a perfect metaphor for any of us who have been through a trauma that left us feeling broken and unworthy. At more than one point, I related so strongly to his emotions that I was in tears.

I also loved how Okyin, the lion-man, didn't "save" or "free" Androcles; Androcles had to do that himself, though Okyin was right beside him.

This is more than just the story of a former slave finally gaining his freedom. It's a beautiful expression of becoming whole and trusting someone else fully, body and soul.

I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.
